As charming as “I told you so” is, it’s important to note it took spinning up an entirely different reality to make people “vote for this.” The Christian right has been indoctrinating these people since birth. They have their own media, they are homeschooled (without the school part) and Faux was permitted to call itself “news.” Worse it was allowed to continue doing so after caught lying. They should have been shut down.
It’s not like the mainstream news has been pushing articles with teeth opposing it either. Plus politics has gotten so ugly, a lot of people just wanted nothing to do with it and don’t follow it, but still feel obliged to cast a vote.
There was a time when it was considered rude to talk about money, religion, and politics with all but those closest to you. Your vote was private.
People have gotten rude and pushy about being able to “place” each other politically, often attempting to choose for you.
So yes, while some of them are absolutely hateful fuckers who were 100% on board. Cut off toxic, murdery people. ICE and those cheering them all, all fair.
Not any all ever.
They aren’t all that way. You don’t know their circumstances, how much they even knew about the election, if they voted under duress of abuse, or even if they can read.
So it’s a pretty bold move to categorize them all like checking a box is the same as rounding up immigrants themselves.
Some may come to see the light, but not if everyone there is waiting to blame them for believing lies they were told. We are ALL guilty of that.
Anyone who breaks free from that toxic cesspool now, will probably be shunned by their friends, family, and churches. Further, they’ve been told their whole lives how mean and nasty “liberals” (apparently the only people they think oppose them) are.
If they are seeking and the first thing someone does is act like a virtue signaling twat, what exactly do you hope to accomplish?
Doing this after a tragedy is much MUCH worse.
Most non MAGA seemed capable of understanding when it was adult Democrats killed recently.
But not today, when it was a campground of children who do not vote.
Because they happen to live in a red state.
And a lunatic took away weather instrumentation and reporting that saves lives.
Which “side” is “better” when they are both doing the same thing? Everybody was lied to. The various attributes of both parties, not just one, brought us here.
A cause is only as strong as its worst advocate. That’s why they send in bad actors to discredit good causes. We saw them try at the protests last month. Occupy had a good thing going until they didn’t.
In this scenario, YOU, true blue, are still drinking your cult’s kool-aid, and this person is breaking free from the mold they were made in. That takes courage and strength of character. Punching down takes short-sightedness.
Kicking someone when they are down so you can “win” at “being right” while they are at a disadvantage are the tactics of abusers. Immediately putting someone on the defensive does nothing but confirm the fears and biases that allowed them to make the past choice you don’t agree with.
Those who are defensive are not receptive. They are processing that now. Nobody is particularly receptive to rude people, even me, and I’m pretty chill at this point.
Here I am once again asking you:
Do you want to be free, which requires putting some bullshit aside to accomplish, or do you want to make someone else tell you that you were “right” for doing the same damn thing?
I mean, how would you feel if those who figured something like this was coming a long time ago treated you like a pariah because you didn’t notice fast enough for their liking? That’s some petty-ass gatekeeping shit not at ALL in alignment with our (hopefully) shared goal of ending the divisions that allowed oligarchs to run this game on all of us, and steal us blind.
Maybe stop running the game on each other for them and make the fuckers work for it, at least?!
Weirdly, I mostly just see people trying to inform, support, and tolerate each other. People breaking cycles of abuse tend to do that sort of thing.
Amazingly, many seem to put more trust in politicians who lie and sell us out to the highest bidder to enrich themselves, than we do in each other.
What in the actual fuck has happened to us?!
You know where I saw people “othered” for arriving too late? Burning Man. They are not nice to “tourist” weekend arrivals. They don’t know if you had to work, had a sick kid, had your car overheat every hour on the way there (like my bestie’s did, doubling our travel time).
They know if you look too clean to have been there all week, and feel entitled to harass you for it.
That’s just the radical self-expression.
And here I thought it was shitty and mean-spirited. My mistake. About that (from the meta on their site that showed up in search):
”Our ethos is built on the 10 Principles, a set of commonly understood values reflected in the Burning Man experience. Radical Inclusion: Anyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community.”
**As long as you spend hundreds of dollars on a ticket, thousands more on transportation, costumes, shit to blow up, and gear to survive in a lake bed where nothing can live, don’t hold anyone accountable for indecent liberties, and most importantly…
are fucking punctual!
